Platform for Informal Workers

We designed and developed the GLP Connect mobile application, an online platform created under the Global Labor Program (GLP-POWER) to empower informal workers. The mission was to build a community-driven tool that provides workers with essential resources, support, and access to services to improve their lives and labor conditions.

Technology Stack

We utilized a modern, full-stack JavaScript approach to ensure the app is fast, reliable, and deployable across all major mobile platforms:

  • Flutter: The app's front-end was built using Flutter, Google's cross-platform UI toolkit. This allowed for the efficient creation of a visually consistent and high-performance native app for both Android and iOS from a single codebase, accelerating development and reducing maintenance costs.
  • Node.js: The back-end infrastructure was developed with Node.js. This choice provides a scalable and robust server to efficiently handle high concurrent user traffic, secure data exchange, and manage the extensive educational content and community interactions within the platform.

Key Features

  • Community and Solidarity: The platform acts as a social space where informal workers can share their experiences, learn from peers, and foster a sense of support and solidarity.
  • Educational Resources: Users can access a library of educational materials and training programs to enhance their knowledge and skills, directly contributing to career advancement.
  • Service Access: The app provides crucial access to various support services, including legal and psychosocial assistance, helping workers navigate complex issues.
  • Decent Work Advocacy: By creating an organized digital community, the app helps to improve workers' access to fair and decent work opportunities and advocate for better employment standards.
